Gratitude - A Roadmap through 2021

Updated: Jun 23, 2021

It was the beginning of the Covid-19 onset in India somewhere around the beginning of March 2020. No one knew what hit us, how hard the impact was gonna be, how long it was gonna last, does it have any cure & many more questions such as these whose answers nobody knew.

Complete lockdown seemed to be the only way to curb the spread of this incredibly deadly Covid-19 Virus. We didn't even know what a lockdown meant & then it happened, not just a lockdown but a complete blanket lockdown. People scrambled to stores to stock up for provisions, medicines & other supplies the evening before the lockdown happened, it was so sudden. We were scared, worried, panicking & helpless. We didn't know what was happening or whom to look up to.

As days turned into weeks, weeks into months & months into years, people lost their jobs, livelihoods & lives too. There was no respite from mounting bills, school fees, paying rent, providing for one's own family, medical expenses, and much more.

We all have had the first-hand experience of all of this and much more. Now we are battling the new mutated variants of Covid_19 and we don't know what lies ahead.

We HOPE,

We PRAY,

We BATTLE It Out,

We CARRY ON.

Now all of this has taken a huge toll on our overall well-being, be it mental health or physical. In simple terms, it is called stress. Keeping in mind that both Mental & Physical Health are directly interlinked.

We all know that there are many kinds of stress. I will avoid getting into boring details on the different types of stress, you can find these on various online sites. Here I just want to share with you all how I have learned and embraced these little joys of life and eventually they have become my stress busters.

Most of what I have mentioned at the start of this article has happened to me and my family. Believe me, it's not a nice feeling. We used to be worried sick of so many different things. Even though we tried different ways to calm our minds, it used to always wander off into the WHAT IF???? Mode. I am sure that you all understand this mental state of mind.

Our Emotional Wellbeing, Self Help, Mental Wellbeing & Physical Well Being found Solace in the things we already had in hand but most of the time failed to recognize the immense power & incredible value it possesses and that is FAMILY.

I have two kids; My baby girl has just entered her teens & my son is 9 Years old. They are good kids, very loving & genuinely caring.

One of the key elements of overcoming anxiety is by offering Gratitude/Being Grateful for what we have at the moment. So we started spending more time in daily family prayers and each one of us started offering our gratitude.

At the end of the prayers, each one of us would say a small note of gratitude to the almighty for whatever we did that day & whatever we are thankful for, it could be the smallest of the things. As small as kids saying “Thank you, Jesus, that I could arrange my books today”.

Heartfelt gratitudes are very powerful means of finding the confidence & strength to deal with life's challenges head-on. You also find a sense of divine comfort, a sense that someone supreme is taking control over your life. Doesn't matter which religion you follow, having a sense of Gratitude and Acknowledging it is a very powerful way for creating positive energy.

Give it to the universe constantly and the entire Universe will conspire to give this positive energy back to you. Now just imagine the power that can be unleashed and the magnitude in which it can touch our lives. Whatever we think about & thank about we bring out.

“What a privilege it is to carry everything to God in Prayer”. - A Church Hymn

At times in the afternoons (when the lockdown eased a bit) the four of us would just pack a few light homemade snacks, get in our car drive off nearby (leaving all our smart gadgets home) park the car in a quiet neighborhood under a shady tree, listen to some music in the car, enjoy the snacks, chat & laugh, have a cheerful time and come back home. At times we would go to the terrace & enjoy the breeze and have some fun. We would spend time talking to parents & grandparents over video calls. Play carrom & chess at home. Kids were feeling happier.

What made another big difference is that we considerably reduced watching the news and definitely not the depressing and arguing debate shows. This according to us is pure negative energy and we don't need it. We would mostly spend the night watching movies together, mostly, comedy movies with kids.

What I am referring to with the above is that these little things play a huge role in our overall well-being. We feel the positive energy into our home, our hearts & minds. Challenges are still there but there is an unknown confidence that things will work out for the best.

We sleep peacefully, wake up fresh each morning and look forward to a new day. Headaches, backaches & migraines are lesser, appetite is better & we also eat healthy food. Overall, we have started feeling better, both mentally & physically. It didn't happen overnight, it did take a few weeks but it is well worth the discipline.

“The Secret gives you anything you want: Happiness, health, and wealth.” - Bob Proctor.

Once this Aura of positivity is created; then you can uncover the second force of the Universal Great Secret and that is the power of Manifestation. Now as you have gathered the attention of the Universe, use this attention to Manifest whatever you want in your life, anything at all. It could be a bigger home, money, car, job, better health, etc.

Ask from the Universe; Manifest it with all your heart, mind & soul. Being Specific in what you ask is the key as well. Eg: I would like One Crore in my account within 2 years. Don't ask “I want a lot of money”. Once you have asked for specific things, then start working towards it, don't sit on your couch and grab a drink. Step by step you will see how the Universe will work towards achieving your goals.

“Positive Thinking Is Not only About Expecting The Best To Happen…..But It Is Also About Accepting That Whatever Happens Is For The Best.” - Robert Fernandes
